CREATİVE PLAY

Fred Rogers (1928-2003) was an extremely influential figure in the history of American television and the lives of millions of children. As the creator and star of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” he championed values such as compassion, equality and kindness.

Rogers conveyed his thoughts to a wide audience and attracted great attention with the many books he wrote, taking children, their fears, concerns and questions about the world seriously. Translated into Turkish, “Your Child is Special”. We think that the book titled "/Your are Special" should be included in the library of every new generation of parents and educators with its wisdom-filled content.

The quotes we have chosen for you from the chapter called "Game and Creativity" of this book underline the effects of games on our children's creativity as well as the fact that playing games is an important step towards mastery and growth.

YOUR CHILD IS SPECIAL

What fuels the imagination? Probably more than anything else, loving adults who encourage children's self-created imaginative play.

Creativity and imagination are the beginnings of problem solving for a young child.

Play is an expression of our creativity, and creativity, I believe, lies at the root of our ability to learn, to cope, and to be whatever we are.
.
Play is often viewed as a relaxation activity rather than a serious learning method. However, for children, play is serious learning. Play is a way of coping with life and preparing for adulthood at various times. Play is a way to solve problems and express emotions. In fact, play is the real work of childhood.

Self-created play is a must, because this is how children learn many important things about being human.

By providing children with appropriate toys, we show them that we understand that play is an important part of mastery and growth. I think much of children's play to create and build comes from a desire to control the outside world and the inner self. When children play with blocks, they decide what shape the blocks will take and what they will represent.

A child only does what he feels the need to do. In doing so, it controls the events that occur. Being able to express emotions through creation is a healthy part of a child's growth

The things we play with and the people who help us play make a big difference in our lives.

People whose work is creative self-expression—artists, writers, musicians, dancers—seem to rely heavily on play to do what they do. What they all have in common is the urge to take familiar things and arrange them in new combinations.

Imagining something can be the first step towards making it happen, but it takes real time and real efforts from real people to learn something, to do it, to turn thoughts into action or dreams into inventions.
